I’ve recently had a hilarious chat with the helpdesk at WordPress. (My blog is made with WordPress.)
Why was it hilarious? Not because I had to laugh about the helpdesk person’s English. In fact, he or she (?) has good English.
That had I had to laugh had more to do with the absurdity of the conversation. Did you ever talk to a helpdesk person and feel that they didn’t know how to solve your problem? That’s what I felt in this little talk.
Why am I showing you this? Because I’d like you to look at some little mistakes in the conversation.
Like: grammar mistakes and mistakes with punctuation.
Read it through first, and try to find the mistakes.
The mistakes can also be in the things that Jacqueline says (that’s me!).
Below is the transcript from your recent chat with WordPress.com.

Hi, I’m unhappy because my blog is slow to load. It can be bad in the morning already, but especially later in the day when the readers in the US are waking up it can get really annoying, with pages timing out. Can you please do something about it? Thanks & best regards, Jacqueline |

Hello there! |
Jacqueline |
hi |
Jacqueline |
Have you seen my complaint? |
Saravanan |
It loaded your site in second for me. http://d.pr/i/2zuR |
Saravanan |
So I am thinking it is just your internet connection. |
Saravanan |
Would you be able to try your site from a different internet connection ? May be from a mobile phone with a cellular data connection ? |
Jacqueline |
Nope, it’s nothing to do with my internet connection, because it doesn’t happen with other websites that I use. |
Jacqueline |
My internet connection is very high speed |
Saravanan |
Are these other sites on WordPress.com as well? |
Jacqueline |
no, they’re not |
Saravanan |
It could be that only WordPress.com sites are slow to load, so could you please try accessing your site from a different network? |
Jacqueline |
sorry, what do you mean from a different network? |
Saravanan |
You might be on a wifi network now correct? |
Jacqueline |
yes |
Saravanan |
Could you please try to connect to a different internet connection/ interenet service provider? may be you can use your smart phone with cellular data and not wifi? |
Jacqueline |
ok, just a sec |
Saravanan |
Thanks. |
Jacqueline |
It’s okay. No timing out |
Jacqueline |
So why is it timing out on my wifi? |
Saravanan |
Looks like your internet provider might be having some network issues with WordPress.com. It would get sorted out soon (usually 24 hours). If it doesn’t then you may want to check with them directly. |
Jacqueline |
Hm, it’s not something that is from the last 24 hours. This has been getting worse over a few weeks. |
Saravanan |
In that case, please check with your internet provider. |
Saravanan |
They would be able to resolve this for you. |
Jacqueline |
ok, thanks |
Saravanan |
Do you have any other questions for me? |
Jacqueline |
No, not for now. |

And, how was it? Did you find any errors?
I have. Here is the dialogue again, with the mistakes annotated in red.

Hello there! |
Jacqueline |
Hi.
Comment: Not using capitals and full stops is not so bad when you write messages, but it can become a bad habit@ |
Jacqueline |
Have you seen my complaint? |
Saravanan |
It loaded your site in seconds for me. http://d.pr/i/2zuR
Comment: This definitely should be in the plural. |
Saravanan |
So I am thinking it is just your internet connection.
Comment: I am thinking is not a mistake, but normally you say: I think it’s just your internet connection. |
Saravanan |
Would you be able to try your site from a different internet connection ? May be from a mobile phone with a cellular data connection ?
Comment: Maybe is one word.
Don’t put spaces before a punctuation mark. So it should be: Would you be able to try your site from a different internet connection? |
Jacqueline |
Nope, it’s nothing to do with my internet connection, because it doesn’t happen with other websites that I use. |
Jacqueline |
My internet connection is very high speed |

Jacqueline |
No, they’re not.
Comment: See above. |
Saravanan |

Jacqueline |
Sorry, what do you mean from a different network? |
Saravanan |
You might be on a wifi network now correct?
Comment: There should be a comma in here: You might be on a wifi network now, correct? Or use a tag: You are on a wifi network now, aren’t you? |
Jacqueline |
Yes. |
Saravanan |
Could you please try to connect to a different internet connection/ interenet service provider? may be you can use your smart phone with cellular data and not wifi?
Comment: internet.
Maybe! Also with capital M. |
Jacqueline |
Ok, just a sec. |
Saravanan |
Thanks. |
Jacqueline |
It’s okay. No timing out. |

So, as you can see, no really big mistakes. Just some plurals and maybe with two words. Those are very typical errors.
By the way, I have since had to deal with a new problem, and that is that the Pinterest website doesn’t load later in the day. Grrr.
But the WordPress is okay again.
