Word to the Wise: devour

devour (verb) [pronounce with the ou like in house] – eat (too) quickly or a lot

This word is also often used figuratively: to devour a book means to read it quickly and with much interest and/or read a lot.



Here are some examples of how you can use devour:

I was so hungry when I came home that I devoured a whole packet of biscuits.

The lion devoured her prey.

The fire devoured the little wooden house in a mere few minutes.

Liam reads four novels in 3 days: he devours books, he has since he started reading.
