There are times in the year when I feel more like singing than at other times. No, I’m not in love. Just happen to be in the mood for singing. So my students have been singing a lot with me.
Hope you like these songs too.
(You probably will, as they’re all of them very popular songs.)
First a lullaby: Baby Mine.
A lullaby [pronounce lullabai] is a song that puts children to sleep (hopefully). Works on adults too!
This sweet song is from the Disney movie Dumbo (1941), about a little elephant. Very old movie, I know, but still lots of fun and the song is a classic.
I like the version best that is sung by Bette Midler. I’ve asked lots of people whether they know her, and I’m always surprised that they don’t! She is such a great singer (and actor too).
Just a little note, when I wanted to play the song for a student on my mobile device, it wasn’t available. So you might want to use a pc or laptop to play this song:
Aaaah. Isn’t the animation lovely too?
Gaps
Okay, don’t fall asleep yet, because now you’ll listen again and fill in the gaps in the song:
Baby Mine
Bette Midler
Baby mine, don’t you ____________.
Baby mine, dry your ____________.
Rest your head close to my heart,
Never to part, baby of mine.
Little one, when you ___________,
Pay no heed what they ____________.
Let your eyes sparkle and _______________,
Never a tear, baby of mine.
If they knew all about you,
They’d end up loving you _______________.
All those same people who scold you,
What they’d give just for the right to hold you.
From your head down to your _______________,
You’re not much, goodness knows.
But, you’re so precious to ______________,
Sweet as can ______________, baby of mine.
